Randy’s Mall Dash

Retro-style Endless Runner Game

Randy's Mall Dash

This year, I wanted to do something different and memorable for our agency Christmas card. The art department had been talking about making a video game and now I finally had the time to make it happen.

Since this would be going out to EVERYBODY, and not just nerds who grew up playing Nintendo, it needed to be simple and approachable. There is only one input (jump), and the level starts out slow and forgiving.

We also wanted to do a persistent high score board, which I built with PHP and a MySQL database. The winner of the best score won an SNES Classic.

Shoot-Em-Up Game

Shoot-em-up game with an alien-blasting/digital marketing theme.

This game was created in order to sell the agency’s digital services. You play as an intrepid astronaut who blasts asteroids and alien bugs with an upgradable space gun. The power-ups are all metaphors for services the agency can provide. For example, the spread weapon represents search engine optimization, homing missiles represent targeted ads, etc.

It would be pulled up on a tablet and played at trade shows. Passers-by would play it, and at the end, enter their contact information with their high score.
